Hydrometers, Baumé pattern

For aqueous solutions and liquids with similar surface tensions.

The advantage of this pattern is that the distances between graduation marks remain constant throughout the entire range. Conversion from °Bé to density in g/cm3 can be calculated according to the following equation:

ρ = 144.3 : (144.3 – °Bérat.)

°Bérat. = 144.3 (1 – 1/ρ )
